Election over...
As you may be aware, I lost by some 26 votes out of 2,408, as the full results show.
I am humbled by, and am truly grateful for, the strength of support I received from the 1191 of you who took the trouble to vote for me.
While I strongly believe I was the candidate able to offer most to CUSU, and although I feel in some way numbed and, to be honest, robbed - in the sense that those who know me will understand, I will be working happily and constructively with my opponent - the eventual victor, Stewart, during the handover period leading up to the change-over in the summer vacation period.
I have every confidence that Stewart will continue with complete competence the wide series of reforms I have put in place, and that these measures will be found by students and by him to be leading to a better student union, for the benefit of all students. Not least I believe this because many of the proposals we were offering were similar (if differently applicable), demonstrating consensus over the organisational direction CUSU should be taking.
Once again, many thanks for your support, and I look forward to the coming four months before the time in my post is complete.
